As of Monday, September 30th, 2024, negotiations between East & Gulf coast port operators and the International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) have yet to yield an agreement. With the current collective bargaining agreement set to expire at midnight, a work stoppage is anticipated to begin at 12:01 am on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

This potential strike could significantly impact maritime operations along the East and Gulf coasts of the United States. While discussions are ongoing, the lack of a resolution raises concerns about potential disruptions to supply chains and international trade. At Protrade Logistics, we understand the gravity of this situation and its potential impact on our clients. Our operations teams are working diligently to minimize any adverse effects on our valued customers. Despite these challenging circumstances, Protrade Logistics wants to reassure our clients that we currently foresee no setbacks in our operations. However, we believe in transparency and preparedness. As such, we want to alert our clients about possible disruptions that may arise due to two factors:

  1. The ongoing hurricane season, which can affect shipping routes and port operations. [Source: National Hurricane Center, "Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook", August 15, 2024]
  2. The possibility of strikes at East and Gulf coast ports. [Source: American Shipper, "ILA Strike Looms as Negotiations Continue", September 28, 2024]
